10/26/2008: "A Letter To Steve Ballmer"

When I heard about you traveling the world, lecturing on how "You Can Change The World," I decided to let you know how I would change the world, especially if I had a lot money at my disposal. During the Memorial Day Weekend, I passed you in our local grocery store and said "Hi Steve" and you said hi back and asked how I was doing. I said great and we went on our way. I wanted to tell you then how I would change the world but I could see you were busy shopping with your friend in the yellow shirt, high-fiving and doing the jump & bump that jocks do, back by the milk, so I refrained from bothering you. Since then I've gotten sidetracked but am now ready to give you my opinion on the subject.
I would build a community center for every school district. It would be a safe haven for any child from birth on and for anyone else in the community who needs something to do and someone to talk to. A community bus would be available to transport anyone there who wanted to come so no one would have to be home alone or forced to be with someone who doesn't have their best interests at heart. There would be fresh food for the hungry, child care, good music for dancing, help with school work, and plenty of socializing. I feel it could be completely run by private donations with the help from city, county and state. If we start taking care of our neighbors from the very beginning, we are going to have a big decline in the problems that stem from the neglect that happens just because we are forced to leave our children alone or in the hands of people who could cause them harm. There would be a lot less screwed up people in our society if we all get together and make sure our kids are well taken care of from the start.
I'd be glad to share my ideas about the center with you and would even be willing to leave my grounds maintenance business to run the first community center, to be the model for every community if you are willing to build it. I doubt that your Island home is your only home but you should know by now that we need something more here for everyone to do and I think this is the answer, not only for our community but for all the communities around the world. Let's all pitch in and take care of our neighbors and Let's All Dance! Sincerely, Bonnie

P.S. I forgot to mention that it really bugs me to see the grass around the big white rock by your driveway that was not trimmed when your caretaker mowed. If you ever need a caretaker, keep me in mind because I'd never leave the job done half-assed, although I hope to be out of this business in the next few years. Thanks for your time, BJ
