I think the reason why Steve Ballmer is on my vision board is because he's the one traveling the world telling people that they can change the world and yet his own community is in dire need of the help that people like him could bring.
On our Island the need for a community center started discussions in 1998. The original idea was to have child care services and senior services combined under the same roof with a common area for community gatherings. There was some very prominent members of the community on the board who started fund raising for the project. Here it is 11 years later and they still haven't raised as much as they need to begin. The child care center backed out as did the senior center so I suppose if it ever gets opened it will end up being something completely different from it's original purpose.
I went to one of their meetings with my idea for a place to dance. I was willing to be part of their center as long as I could provide music for the young and old in part of the building. They dismissed my ideas and continued on with their own agenda, so here we are still without a community center.
I think it's up to the people like Steve Ballmer and the other well to do members of each community to donate the money to build centers that provide safe havens for our neighbors and a place to gather.
Why does it take 11 years of no progress? Let's All Dance!
